Reviewing and Updating Your Completed Estate Plan Documents

FastWill makes it easy to update your completed Estate Plan documents, ensuring they accurately reflect your current wishes and circumstances, regardless of any changes or life events that may arise.

When To Update Your Estate Plan

Your Estate Plan should adapt to significant life changes or shifts in circumstances. Key moments that may require a review and possible revision of your Estate Plan include:

- Marriage or divorce

- Birth or adoption of a child

- A significant change in your financial situation

- Relocating to a different state

- Changes in your preferences regarding beneficiaries or executors

Neglecting to update your Estate Plan could lead to state laws overriding your wishes for the management and distribution of your estate.

Periodically Reviewing Your Estate Plan

It's a good idea to review your Estate Plan regularly, ideally every couple of years, or after any major life events such as births, deaths, marriages, or divorces.

When you purchase your Estate Plan, you can make unlimited updates to your documents for a full year. After the first year, you have the option to purchase an additional year of updates as needed from the Profile & Settings page at any time.

What happens after updating your documents?

After making changes to your Estate Plan, these documents will need to be signed again to become effective.

What should I do with my old documents?

Once you sign a new set of documents, any previous versions are automatically revoked. To prevent confusion and ensure clarity regarding your current wishes, it’s advisable to shred or destroy any old documents.
